What Is in the Curated Collection?

The Collection holds more than 9,400 hours of training in eight main subjects. The biggest is Information Technology, with more than 4,800 courses for your techs.

Training for Every Role at Your MSP

Empath's own courses are built for MSP work. The Collection adds depth for four roles.

Technicians and Help Desk

Certification study leads the list. Empath Learn has more than 1,400 courses on IT certification tracks, such as CompTIA, Cisco, Azure and AWS, most of them from the Collection. More than 500 course titles name CompTIA, from A+ to Security+, and more than 60 name the CCNA. Security operations and cloud computing add over 500 courses each. CompTIA calls A+ the industry standard for starting an IT career. A tech earns it by passing two exams, and the Collection's A+ courses are there to study for them. Sales and Account Managers

Reps get more than 150 courses and lessons on selling and handling objections, plus over 100 on customer service and client experience. The AI roleplays let a rep practice calming an unhappy client, in their own words, before they try it on a real one. Service Managers and Team Leads

A tech promoted to team lead gets more than 100 courses and lessons for new managers, covering the move from coworker to boss and how to run a one-on-one. Coaching and counseling has over 90, and so does project management. The roleplays include coaching a direct report, so a new lead can rehearse a hard conversation first. HR, Finance and Office Staff

The back office gets courses on the software it lives in. Excel alone has more than 350 courses and lessons, and the rest of Microsoft 365 sits in the same software group of more than 1,500. HR gets more than 200 on hiring and employment law. Finance gets QuickBooks courses from Bigger Brains and Skillsoft. The operations, HR and finance training page lists all of these by skill, from employment law to Excel. Compliance is for everyone on staff, with more than 1,500 courses on topics such as harassment prevention and workplace conduct.

Some courses are tied to a named regulation or standard. Across the Collection, more than 40 cover HIPAA and HITECH, and more than 20 each cover GDPR and PCI DSS. On the safety side, over 250 courses and lessons cover OSHA topics. They are for your own staff and for clients who work under those rules. Security awareness has more than 60 courses too, on topics such as recognizing phishing and safer passwords.

Hands-On Labs and AI Roleplays

Both come with the Curated Collection. Every Empath Learn seat has them. In Empath Grow, a client has them when you add the Collection for that client. The Bigger Brains catalog does not include them.

Hands-On Labs

The Collection has more than 40 hands-on labs, all published by Skillsoft. A lab is a live practice environment that opens in the browser, so the tech does the actual task before trying it on a client's system. A tech might configure a wireless access point, or set up Cisco switches and routers. There are also sandboxes for Azure and AWS, with nothing in production at risk. Other lab topics include CompTIA, Linux and programming in languages such as Python and C#.

AI Roleplays

The Collection has hundreds of AI roleplays. Each one sits inside a short lesson or course. After the video, the learner steps into a realistic workplace scenario and answers an AI in their own words. The scenario adapts to what they say. At the end they get written feedback on what they did well and what to do differently next time, and their managers can see the results. Practice areas include difficult conversations, client complaints, coaching a direct report and moments where compliance is on the line, such as harassment.

What Changes for Empath Learn Customers?

If your team already uses Empath Learn, the Collection is part of the subscription you pay today. Empath Learn is the platform for MSP owners and staff, and every seat now includes three libraries: Empath's own MSP courses, Microsoft Learn and the Curated Collection. Together they hold more than 19,000 courses, learning paths and modules. Professor Messer's A+, Network+ and Security+ courses are in Empath's own library, produced by Empath.

Can Your Clients Get It in Empath Grow?

Yes, as a premium catalog. Empath Grow is the LMS you run for your clients' teams. It can start empty and hold only the courses you build. Premium catalogs are chosen per client, so a client you give one has a full library from day one, and you can sell them as an upgrade or include them in your package.

In Empath Grow, each client has the Curated Collection or Bigger Brains, not both. The Collection already includes Bigger Brains courses, so having both would be redundant. On its own, Bigger Brains is a smaller Grow catalog of more than 300 courses. Clip Training and Inspired eLearning are separate premium catalogs: add them per client in Grow, or for your own team in Learn.

The Collection also gives you training to sell beyond IT. It has over 1,500 workplace safety courses, including OSHA topics and emergency preparedness, for your clients' teams.

Empath Grow Lite is the watch-only plan, with no course assigning. Premium catalogs work the same way on either plan, so a Grow Lite client can have the Collection too. A hands-on lab is a live practice environment in the browser. The learner does real IT tasks, such as configuring a network, investigating a security issue or writing code, before trying them on a client's system. The Curated Collection includes more than 40 labs from Skillsoft, and each lab's page says what it needs.

What Are Some Examples of Compliance Training?

Common examples are harassment prevention, workplace conduct, HR and employment law, workplace safety and courses tied to regulations such as HIPAA and OSHA. The Curated Collection has more than 1,500 courses each on compliance and on workplace safety, for your own staff in Empath Learn and for clients in Empath Grow.
