Webhook health and the unhealthy alert

Learn what Healthy, Degraded and Unhealthy mean for an Empath webhook, how the numbers on its row are counted, and who's alerted.

Learn how to tell whether a webhook is working, and what Empath does when it isn't.

What do the health labels mean?

  • Healthy: deliveries are succeeding.
  • Degraded: the last 3 events in a row failed every attempt.
  • Unhealthy: the last 5 events in a row failed every attempt.

An event only counts as failed after its last retry fails. One successful delivery sets the webhook back to Healthy.

The numbers on the row

  • Delivered: accepted deliveries over the webhook's lifetime.
  • Failed: failed attempts over its lifetime. One event that fails all 4 attempts adds 4.
  • Last delivery: when Empath last finished trying an event, successfully or not.

The unhealthy alert

When a webhook becomes Unhealthy, your managers and admins get a Webhook endpoint unhealthy email and bell notification (at most once an hour per webhook), as long as the Webhook & account alerts row is on.

Good to know

  • An Unhealthy webhook keeps being tried. Empath doesn't switch it off.
  • Events that failed every attempt aren't resent. After fixing your receiver, use your own records to catch up, e.g. by checking recent assignments in Empath.
  • The alert email mentions retrying failed deliveries, but there's no retry button in Empath yet.
