How to View Group Progress and Reporting Data in the Admin Dashboard
Learn how Managers and Admins can use the Empath Admin Dashboard to review group progress, assigned and completed learning hours, off-track members, training activity trends, and downloadable summary reporting.
Summary
The Progress Dashboard in Empath gives Managers and Admins an at-a-glance view of training activity and progress across their tenant, groups, and teams.
You can filter reporting by group and date range, identify members who are off track, compare assigned and completed learning hours, review aggregate progress, visualize training activity over time, and download summary reporting for a selected group.
This dashboard replaces much of the reporting functionality previously found on the Members page.
Old KB: https://empathmsp.com/herd-help/how-to-pull-a-progress-report-in-empath
Tenants using the updated administration experience will now see Admin between Dashboard and Courses in the main navigation instead of Members.
The new Admin > Progress Dashboard presents much of the same aggregate reporting data previously available from the Members page, but reorganizes it into clearer reporting cards and charts.
It also adds capabilities such as:
- A dedicated Members Off Track view
- The ability to notify off-track members from the dashboard
- A Daily Progress chart for visualizing when training activity occurs
- Clearer group and date-range filtering
If your tenant still shows Members instead of Admin, the previous Members-based reporting documentation still applies to your tenant.
Who Can Access the Progress Dashboard? This article applies to users with the Manager or Admin role who can see Admin in the main Empath navigation.
If you do not see Admin, your role or tenant experience may be different.
How It Works1. Open the Progress Dashboard
- Log in to Empath.
- Click Admin in the main navigation.
- Select the Progress Dashboard from the left-hand Admin navigation if it is not already selected.
The dashboard displays aggregate reporting for the currently selected group and date range.
2. Select a Group or Team
Use the group or team filter at the top of the dashboard to choose whose data you want to review.
You can:
- View everyone in the tenant
- Select a specific group or team
- Search within the dropdown if your tenant contains many groups
The metrics displayed on the dashboard update based on the group you select.
3. Select a Date Range
Use the date range filter to control the reporting period.
You can select a specific date range or use one of the available preset periods, such as:
- Month to date
- Last 6 months
- All time
The appropriate date range depends on what you are trying to understand.
For example, All time can provide a broad historical overview, while a shorter range such as Month to date makes recent training activity much easier to see.
Understanding the Dashboard MetricsMembers Off Track
The Members Off Track section identifies people who are not currently meeting their expected training progress.
A member may be considered off track when:
- An assigned training item had a due date that has passed without completion
- The member is not meeting a configured expectation for training hours over time
You can select off-track members from this view and send them a notification directly within Empath.
Learning Hours Assigned
This metric shows the total amount of learning assigned to the selected group during the selected reporting period.
This is an aggregate number across the group, not an individual employee total.
Learning Hours Completed
This metric shows how much learning the selected group has completed during the selected reporting period.
Comparing Learning Hours Assigned with Learning Hours Completed provides a quick indication of how much assigned training has actually been consumed.
Depending on the selected reporting period, these metrics may also display a comparison with the previous period.
Total People
The dashboard displays the total number of people included in the selected group.
This can be useful as a quick confirmation that you are reviewing the group you intended to select.
Overall Progress
The circular progress chart shows the selected group's combined progress toward its assigned learning hours.
This is an aggregate group metric.
For example, if different employees within the group have different assignments, the chart combines progress across all of those assignments.
It does not mean that every employee in the group was assigned the same content or that the percentage represents progress against one shared assignment.
Reporting on progress toward specific learning assignments is handled separately from this aggregate dashboard view.
Using the Daily Progress ChartThe Daily Progress chart shows when training activity occurred during the selected date range.
This makes it easier to identify patterns such as:
- Regular training activity
- Periods with little or no training
- Changes in training participation over time
- Concentrated bursts of training activity
Choose a Useful Date Range
The usefulness of this chart depends heavily on the selected date range.
If you select a very large period such as several years, individual activity may be compressed enough that the chart appears mostly empty or becomes difficult to interpret.
For recent activity, try a shorter range such as Month to date.
For broader trend analysis, a period of approximately 6 months can provide a useful balance between historical context and readable detail.
As the reporting period increases, Empath adjusts how activity is grouped on the chart.
Best PracticesReview Training Consistency, Not Just Totals
Total completed hours are useful, but the Daily Progress chart can also show whether training is happening consistently.
If your organization expects employees to complete training regularly, look for recurring activity rather than long periods with no training followed by large spikes.
Use Group Filters Before Interpreting Results
Confirm the selected group before reviewing dashboard metrics. The overall tenant view may combine employees with significantly different roles, assignments, and training expectations.
Filtering to a specific team can make the results more operationally useful.
Match the Date Range to the Question
Use shorter reporting periods when investigating recent behavior and longer periods when evaluating trends.
An extremely large date range can make the Daily Progress visualization difficult to interpret.
Establish a Consistent Training Cadence
Empath's known-good practice is approximately one hour of training per employee per week.
For organizations following a consistent training program, the Daily Progress chart should generally show activity occurring regularly rather than repeated long gaps.
Downloading a Group Summary ReportA downloadable summary report is also available from the Progress Dashboard.
To download the report:
- Select a specific group using the group filter.
- Review the reporting period you want to use.
- Click the download button.
- Download the summary report for the selected group.
This provides the same general type of group summary reporting previously available from the old Members page.
Confirmation StepsImportant: As of August 11, 2026, the contents of the downloadable summary report have not yet been updated as part of the new Admin Dashboard reporting experience.
After selecting your filters, confirm that:
- The correct group or team appears in the group filter.
- The expected reporting period appears in the date range filter.
- The Total People count matches the approximate number of members you expect in that group.
- Assigned and completed learning hours reflect the selected period.
- The Daily Progress chart changes when you adjust the reporting period.
If you are downloading a report, confirm that you selected the intended group before exporting it.
Important Notes- This article applies to the newer Empath experience where Admin appears in the main navigation.
- If your tenant still shows Members, continue using the previous Members-based reporting workflow.
- Overall Progress is aggregated across the assignments belonging to everyone in the selected group.
- Overall Progress should not be interpreted as progress toward one identical assignment shared by every member.
- Very large date ranges can make the Daily Progress chart difficult to read.
- Some additional reporting views available within the Admin area are separate from the aggregate Progress Dashboard and will be covered independently.
I do not see Admin in the navigation
If you see Members instead of Admin, your tenant is still using the previous reporting experience. The older Members-based reporting documentation applies to that interface.
If you see neither option, confirm that you are logged in with the appropriate Manager or Admin permissions.
The Daily Progress chart looks blank
Check your selected date range.
A very large reporting period can compress individual training activity enough that the chart appears mostly empty. Try reducing the range to Month to date, several months, or another period appropriate for the activity you are investigating.
The number of people looks incorrect
Confirm which group or team is selected in the group filter.
The All view includes everyone represented in the tenant-wide reporting view, while selecting an individual group narrows the dashboard to that group.
I cannot download the summary report
Confirm that you have selected a specific group before using the download option.
If the report still does not download as expected, contact Empath Support.
The Overall Progress percentage is not what I expected
Remember that this is an aggregate calculation across the assigned learning of everyone included in the selected group.
Employees within the group may have different assignments, so this percentage should not be interpreted as the completion percentage for a single course or pathway.
