How to Use the Learning Progress Dashboard in Empath

Use the Learning Progress Dashboard to review course and pathway completion across groups of learners, identify who is still in progress or off track, and monitor required training from the Empath Admin area.

 Summary

The Learning Progress Dashboard gives Managers and other authorized users a content-focused view of learning progress across their organization.

Instead of reviewing one learner at a time, you can select a course, pathway, or other supported content and see how the people assigned to it are progressing. This is especially useful for onboarding, required training, team learning objectives, and compliance-related education.

What Changed

As of August 2026, Learning Progress is a new section within the updated Empath Admin area.

The new Admin area replaces the former Members page and includes additional tools for managing and reviewing learning activity.

Learning Progress was specifically designed to answer questions such as:

  • I assigned this course to 10 people. How many have completed it?
  • Who still needs to finish this pathway?
  • How far along are the members of a particular team?
  • Who is behind on required or compliance-related training?
How It Works

1. Open the Admin area

Watch this step in the video

  1. Log in to Empath with a role that has access to the Admin area. You must have at least the Manager role.
  2. From the main navigation, select Admin.
  3. A navigation menu will appear on the left side of the Admin area.
  4. Select Learning Progress.

Depending on your role and permissions, you may not see every Admin option shown in the video.

2. Assign content you want to track

Watch the assignment example

Learning Progress is most useful when reviewing content that has been assigned to a group of learners.

In the video example:

  • Introduction to Tickets and Triage is assigned to the Help Desk group.
  • A due date is added to provide the team with a clear deadline.
  • Learning Progress is then used to review completion across that group.

The assignment process itself is not the focus of this article. The example demonstrates how the Learning Progress Dashboard can be used after learning has been assigned.

3. Filter the Learning Progress Dashboard

Watch the filtering walkthrough

Use the available filters to narrow the dashboard to the learners or content you want to review.

Available filters include:

  • Content type: Course, Pathway, or Live Stream
  • Groups
  • Level
  • Roles
  • Navigator
  • Status: Completed or In Progress

You can also:

  • Use the search box to quickly find options within the available filters.
  • Sort the results alphabetically.
  • Sort with In Progress or Completed items first.

Using multiple filters together can help isolate a particular learning objective for a specific team.

4. Review completion for a course

Watch the course completion example

To review a specific course:

  1. Select the appropriate Group.
  2. Find the course you want to review.
  3. Open the course from the Learning Progress results.
  4. Review the learners associated with the course and their completion status.

In the video example, the dashboard is filtered to the Help Desk group and the Introduction to Tickets and Triage course.

The resulting view shows that 1 out of 7 learners has completed the course and identifies which learners still need to finish it.

This provides a quick way to measure progress toward a specific team learning objective.

5. Review progress for a Pathway

Watch the Pathway example

Learning Progress can also be used to review a larger learning plan, such as a Pathway.

  1. Clear or adjust your existing filters.
  2. Locate the Pathway you want to review.
  3. Open the Pathway from the Learning Progress results.
  4. Review progress across the learners associated with it.
  5. Use pagination when additional learners are available on another page.

The Pathway view can show learners who:

  • Have completed the Pathway
  • Are making progress
  • Are off track

For example, if you assign a new-hire onboarding Pathway to everyone hired during a particular quarter, Learning Progress gives you a centralized view of how far each person has progressed through that learning plan.

Confirmation Steps

After applying your filters and opening the relevant content, confirm that:

  • The correct course or Pathway is displayed.
  • The expected group or learners appear in the results.
  • Completion and progress information is visible for each learner.
  • The overall completion count matches the learners shown in the selected view.

If you are reviewing a larger group, remember to check additional pages of results when pagination is available.

Important Notes

Watch the current limitations overview

At the time this walkthrough was recorded:

  • The Download report button is visible but is not yet fully functional.
  • Some elements may appear clickable even though their associated interactions are not yet active.
  • Additional Learning Progress functionality is still being developed.
  • Access to the Admin area requires at least the Manager role.
  • The Admin options available to you may vary based on your role and permissions.

These behaviors are expected based on the version of Learning Progress shown in this article.

Best Practices

Filter by both content and group

When checking a team learning objective, use both the relevant group and content filters. This helps remove unrelated learning activity and gives you a cleaner view of the requirement you are reviewing.

Use Learning Progress for onboarding

If new hires are assigned the same onboarding Pathway, use Learning Progress to compare progress across the entire onboarding group rather than reviewing learners individually.

Use due dates when deadlines matter

When required training has a deadline, adding a due date during assignment can provide learners with a clear target and make follow-up easier.

Use the dashboard for required training

Watch the compliance example

Learning Progress can be particularly useful for:

  • HR-required learning
  • Workplace or safety training
  • Company-wide required education
  • Role-specific training requirements
  • New-hire onboarding
  • Team learning initiatives

Use the dashboard to identify learners who still need to complete a requirement so managers can follow up appropriately.

Troubleshooting

I do not see Admin in the main navigation

The Admin area requires at least the Manager role. If you do not see Admin, verify that your account has the appropriate role and permissions.

I cannot find the course or Pathway I am looking for

Clear unnecessary filters and use the available search and filtering options to narrow the results by content, group, level, role, Navigator, or status.

The Download report button does not work

This is expected in the version shown in the August 2026 walkthrough. The Download report button is visible but was not yet fully functional at the time of recording.

Something looks clickable, but nothing happens

Some interface elements shown in this version of Learning Progress may appear interactive even though that functionality has not yet been enabled.
