How It Works

1. Start the quiz

When you reach a quiz within a course, you can start it in either of two ways:

  1. Select Start Quiz from the main course view.
  2. Select the Quiz directly from the lesson navigation on the left side of the course.

The quiz opens on a separate screen from the lesson or video you were viewing.

2. Review the quiz requirements

Before answering, review the information shown on the quiz screen.

Depending on how the quiz was configured, you may see:

  • Multiple-choice questions
  • The required passing score
  • A timer, if the quiz has a time limit

The exact quiz experience may vary based on the settings selected when the quiz was created.

You can also switch between light and dark mode using the appearance control at the top of Empath if you prefer a different viewing mode.

3. Select your answers

Select an answer for each question.

When you select an answer, the selected option is highlighted.

You can change your answer as many times as needed before submitting the quiz. Selecting a different option replaces your previous choice.

4. Submit the quiz

When you are ready:

  1. Select Submit.
  2. Review the confirmation message.
  3. Confirm that you want to submit the quiz.

Once the quiz has been submitted, you cannot change the answers for that attempt.

5. Review your results

Watch this step in the video

After submitting the quiz, Empath displays your results.

Depending on the quiz, the results screen may show:

  • Your score
  • The required passing score
  • Whether you passed or failed
  • Which questions you answered correctly
  • Which questions you answered incorrectly
  • The correct answer for questions you missed

Review this feedback before moving on or attempting the quiz again.

6. Retake the quiz if needed

If you do not meet the passing score, you may see the option to Retake the quiz.

Some courses require you to pass a quiz before continuing. When this requirement is enabled, you will not be able to progress to the next lesson until you successfully complete the quiz.

Quiz behavior can vary depending on how the course and quiz were configured. For example, quizzes may use shuffled questions or a question bank.

7. Continue learning after passing

Watch this step in the video

After you meet the required passing score, your results will show that you passed.

Select Continue Learning to move to the next lesson or section of the course.

Confirmation Steps

You have successfully completed the quiz when:

  • Your results show that you passed.
  • Your completed answers are displayed as correct or incorrect.
  • Continue Learning is available if the quiz was required before progressing.
  • You can move to the next lesson or section of the course.
Important Notes
  • Answers can be changed until you submit the quiz.
  • After submission, answers for that attempt cannot be changed.
  • Passing scores are determined by the quiz configuration.
  • Some quizzes must be passed before you can continue through the course.
  • Quiz settings may vary between courses, including timers, question order, question banks, and progression requirements.
  • Percentage-based passing scores can behave differently depending on the number of questions. For example, on a three-question quiz with a 75% passing score, answering two questions correctly produces approximately 67%, so all three questions must be correct to pass.
Best Practices
  • Review all of your answers before selecting Submit.
  • If you do not pass, review the feedback provided before starting your next attempt.
  • Pay attention to the required passing score and any timer displayed before starting.
  • If the quiz prevents you from continuing, confirm whether you have met the required passing score before assuming there is a problem with your course progress.
Troubleshooting

I cannot continue to the next lesson.

The quiz may be configured as a required step. Review your results and confirm that you have achieved the required passing score. If not, select Retake and complete another attempt.

I selected the wrong answer and want to change it.

You can change your selection at any time before submitting the quiz. After submission, answers for that attempt cannot be changed.

I passed some questions but still failed the quiz.

Compare your score with the required passing score shown on the results screen. With smaller quizzes, a single incorrect answer can represent a significant percentage of the total score.

My quiz looks different from the examples in this article.

Quiz presentation and behavior can vary depending on how the quiz was configured. Features such as timers, question banks, shuffled questions, and progression requirements may differ between courses.
