Why Isn’t the Content I Created in Empath Showing Up in the Course Catalog?
Summary
If you have created lessons, videos, or knowledge checks inside Empath and they are not appearing in the course catalog; especially when using the “Created By [Your MSP]” filter, there are a few common reasons. In most cases, the content is either still in draft mode, not placed inside a published course, or being searched for in the wrong section of the platform. This article explains how Empath organizes content and the steps required for your materials to appear in the catalog.
Content Must Be Published Before It Can Appear
Draft content cannot appear in the course catalog.
-
Ensure your course is published, not in draft mode
-
Individual lessons or videos must also be published
-
unpublished material is only visible to users with content admin permissions
If a course remains a draft, it will not appear in the catalog even if all lessons inside it are published.
Lessons Alone Do Not Appear in the Course Catalog
Empath displays published courses and pathways in the catalog; not standalone content objects.
Read Understanding Lessons, Courses and Pathways for more information on this concept.
Key distinctions:
-
A lesson is an individual item such as a video, text document, quiz, or knowledge check
-
A course contains one or more lessons
-
A pathway contains one or more courses
For your work to appear:
-
Place the lesson(s) into a course
-
Publish the course
-
Navigate to the Courses tab to view it
See our KB on the differences between lessons, courses, and pathways for more detail.
Verify You’re Looking in the Correct Section
Empath separates content by type, so items only appear where they belong.
-
The Courses tab lists courses only
-
The Pathways tab lists pathways only
-
The “Created By [Your MSP]” filter applies only to published courses or pathways in their respective tabs
If you created pathways, do not expect them to appear in the Courses tab, and vice versa.
Confirm the “Created By My Organization” Filter Behavior
If your course meets all requirements and still does not appear when filtered:
-
Ensure your tenant name appears correctly in the filter list
-
Confirm the course is published
-
Confirm that at least one published course exists; otherwise, the filter may show zero results
If the filter shows no content when you expect some, this is usually caused by unpublished courses or lessons that were never placed inside a course.
Performance or Filtering Issues
If everything is correctly configured and published but the catalog still does not display your content, you may be experiencing a filtering performance issue.
