How to Log In to Empath Using the New Login Experience

Learn how to sign in to Empath using the updated login experience, including Microsoft or Google authentication and email magic links, plus what to check if you have trouble accessing your account.

Summary

Empath's updated login experience gives existing users several ways to access their account. You can sign in using an email magic link or authenticate using an existing Microsoft or Google account.

For most organizations, Microsoft or Google authentication is the simplest option because it uses the identity and security controls your organization already has in place.

 What Changed

Empath now uses a new authentication system and login screen.

Existing users can sign in using:

  • An email magic link
  • Microsoft
  • Google, for organizations using Google Workspace

Microsoft and Google sign-in are social authentication options. This is separate from SAML SSO, which requires additional configuration.

How It Works

1. Open the Empath login page

0:00

Go to app.empathmsp.com.

If you are not already signed in, Empath will take you to the updated login screen.

From here, you can:

  • Sign in to an existing account
  • Create a new account

Existing Empath users should continue with one of the available sign-in methods.

2. Choose a login method

0:33

Existing users can sign in using:

  • Email
  • Microsoft
  • Google

The email option sends you a magic link that completes the sign-in process.

If your organization uses Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, you can instead authenticate using the corresponding Microsoft or Google account.

3. Sign in using an email magic link

1:01

  1. Enter the email address associated with your Empath account.
  2. Continue through the sign-in process.
  3. Check your inbox for the Empath sign-in email.
  4. Open the message and locate the magic link.
  5. Select the magic link to complete authentication.
  6. Your browser will open Empath and sign you in.

The magic link replaces the previous workflow of manually entering a code received by email.

If the email is difficult to read in Outlook

Some Outlook security configurations prevent external images from displaying automatically.

If the sign-in email appears incomplete or the sign-in button is difficult to locate, use Outlook's Download pictures option and then locate the magic link.

4. Sign in using Microsoft or Google

2:22

For most Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace organizations, social authentication is the recommended sign-in method.

Microsoft

  1. Select Login with Microsoft.
  2. Microsoft may ask you to choose from the identities currently available in your browser.
  3. Select the Microsoft account associated with your Empath user.
  4. Complete any authentication required by your Microsoft environment.
  5. After authentication succeeds, you will be returned to Empath.

Google

Google Workspace users can follow the same general process using the Google authentication option.

Select the Google identity associated with your Empath account and complete any authentication required by your organization's Google Workspace configuration.

5. Complete first-time application approval if required

3:12

Depending on your organization's Microsoft Entra or Google Workspace configuration, the first person attempting to use social authentication may be asked to:

  • Approve the Empath application
  • Submit an application approval request to an administrator

This behavior is controlled by your organization's identity provider and security policies.

If Microsoft displays multiple available identities, choose the account associated with your Empath user.

If that identity already has an authenticated browser session, you may be signed into Empath immediately after selecting it.

Confirmation Steps

4:04

Authentication was successful when:

  • Empath opens without returning you to the login screen.
  • You can access your tenant normally.
  • You are logged into the expected Empath tenant.
  • When using Microsoft or Google, you authenticated with the identity associated with your Empath account.

Once authentication succeeds, no additional login steps should be required.

Important Notes
  • Microsoft and Google authentication are social authentication, not SAML SSO.
  • SAML SSO is a separate configuration option.
  • Your organization's Microsoft Entra or Google Workspace policies may require application approval.
  • If your browser has multiple Microsoft or Google accounts available, make sure you select the identity associated with your Empath account.
  • Email security systems can affect whether you receive or can easily view an email magic link.
  • Some Outlook configurations suppress external images by default.
  • Email filtering, security gateways, or organizational allowlisting policies can prevent an authentication email from reaching your inbox even when Empath has generated and sent it.
Best Practices

Use Microsoft or Google authentication when available

Microsoft or Google authentication generally provides the simplest login experience for organizations already using Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.

It also allows your existing organizational authentication requirements to remain part of the sign-in process.

Use the correct identity

If your browser remembers several Microsoft or Google accounts, verify that you select the account associated with your Empath user.

Keep an authenticated browser session when appropriate

If you are already securely authenticated with the correct Microsoft or Google identity, your identity provider may be able to complete the Empath login without additional prompts.

Review allowlisting when email delivery is being filtered

If authentication emails are not arriving, review the Empath domain and service whitelist documentation with your technical team.

Troubleshooting

Microsoft or Google authentication is not working

4:21

Your organization's identity provider may require the Empath application to be approved before users can authenticate.

If you receive an approval request, follow your organization's normal application approval process.

If authentication still fails, contact Empath Support.

I have several Microsoft accounts listed

Choose the Microsoft identity associated with the email address used for your Empath account.

If you selected the wrong identity, return to the Empath login page and authenticate again using the correct one.

I am not receiving the email magic link

5:04

First, check:

  • Your spam or junk folder
  • Email security or quarantine systems used by your organization
  • Whether your email client is suppressing external content
  • Your organization's allowlisting configuration

Search the Empath Knowledge Base for whitelist and open the Comprehensive Domain and Service Whitelist article.

That article includes the sending addresses, services, URLs, and IP information your technical team may need when configuring email security systems.

Not seeing the message in your inbox does not necessarily mean Empath failed to send it. Mail filtering and security controls between Empath and your mailbox can prevent the message from reaching or appearing in your inbox.

The sign-in email looks incomplete in Outlook

Some Outlook security policies prevent external images from loading automatically.

Use Outlook's option to download or display pictures for the message, then locate the Empath magic link.

Support

If you are still unable to log in:

  • If someone in your organization can access Empath, use the in-app chat bubble to contact support.
  • If you cannot access Empath at all, email support@empathmsp.com.
